Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria: Disquiet as fourteen NNPC 33Kv line of Kaduna electricity distribution company poles collapses at independence way in Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident happened on Friday, 20 August at around 6 pm which one person was injured while a tricycle commonly known as KEKE NAPEP was damaged.
Independence way, a popular road in the kaduna metropolis was forced to be closed while diverting motorists to the second lane.
The incident was originated from digging close to the poles and drainage by a telecom company to install its fiber optics cables across the road.
However, telecommunications companies usually engage in digging which is typically done on walkways, drainages, and even across tarred roads that contribute to damaging roads, flooding, and other sources of economic losses across the country.
An eyewitness told Daily Episode correspondents that the management of Kaduna electric distribution company is aware of the pole’s failure but they carelessly failed to either pull up the poles or de-activate the cables a day before the incident, occurs which resulted in fourteen poles collapsing.
The 33kv lines were installed less than a year now, and the Kaduna electronic distributions were seen reinstalling broken poles a day after the incident.
The injured victim Abdulfatah Hamisu expresses shocks while speaking to Daily Episode as he demands immediate compensation from both the telecom company and the electric distribution company.
