As the Russia-Ukraine war bit harder, civilians suffered from more atrocities and challenges rooted in the offensive war.
Following this, houses were destroyed, and people were killed and displaced, while the war and offensive continued to destabilise means of livelihood by injecting abject poverty that grows health crises and pushes hundreds of civilians into an extreme need for humanitarian aid.
However, as the rescue and evacuations continued, hundreds of vulnerable victims, mostly civilians living in and near frontline communities, were provided food, shelter, medical support, and other life essentials by the ICRC to alleviate their suffering.
During the distributions, the ICRC’s Achille Després noted that people living in communities near the frontline are lacking life essentials. They are lacking food, hygiene items, and water. Today, with the ICRC team, we brought two trucks of humanitarian aid. We donated 1,000 food parcels to this community, and each parcel can feed a person for one month. We also donated 1,000 hygiene parcels with essentials for people to stay healthy. Earlier today, our teams also donated 1,500 liters of drinkable water to support healthcare centers in these communities.
In appreciation, the vulnerable Ukrainians thanked the movement for coming to their rescue at a time of need.
